So, tell you about myself.

This might be my least favorite question in interviews, because I never know where to start or how much information is… too much information. But here are some highlights:

  • I’m Sarah, nice to meet you

  • I graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2015 with my BFA in Graphic Design and a minor in Book Arts

  • I’ve worked in healthcare, finance,
e-commerce/technology, and the federal government, with a lot of freelance stops along the way

  • I’m a dog mom - his name is Houston so I could say “Houston, we have a problem”

  • My side gig is teaching colorguard at a high school in the Raleigh suburbs, and I love it

  • I love volunteering and have had some really cool experiences because of it - ask me about the Super Bowl!

Why Graphic Design?

I was always the kid who made incredibly intricate PowerPoints (and still can, if you’re looking for that) and spent my spare time doing a ton of arts and crafts. Once I figured out that graphic design was an actual career, I knew that was what I was meant to do and I never looked back.

(This is from a workshop with the great Stefan Sagmeister that I was lucky enough to attend at SCAD post-graduation. I still cherish that memory and the advice I got every day!)

  • I am an incredibly hard worker, and I love facing new challenges and finding creative, well-designed solutions. I am resilient and detail-oriented, and there is always a reason for the decisions I make. Plus, my wide range of experience gives me new insight to bring to your team.

  • Graphic Design is in a really cool place right now, with a combination of old-school techniques and new-school technologies. I’m well trained in the former and super excited about the latter, so I can pull from both groups to create an awesome solution for your creative challenges.

  • Looking for someone with senior-level experience and willingness to mentor younger designers? I’m your girl - I’ve led teams throughout my career and love passing on the knowledge I have. Need a work horse to push a project over the finish line? I work fast and efficiently, and with a nice cold Diet Coke in hand, I can do just about anything. Want someone to bring snacks? That’s me too, plus all the other good stuff.
